In a proactive and determined move to address a critical civic issue, Chairman of Town Municipal Corporation Manghopir, Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi, held an impactful meeting with the top leadership of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) at the Corporation’s Head Office. The session, held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, focused on the acute and prolonged water shortage faced by six villages in Manghopir Town, which has deeply affected thousands of local residents.

The meeting was attended by Managing Director Mr. Ahmed Ali Siddiqui (PAS), Chief Executive Officer Mr. Asadullah Khan, community elders, local leaders, and elected representatives. It was not just a formal interaction, but a strategic, results-driven engagement aimed at ensuring urgent relief and long-term solutions.

Ground Realities Presented

Chairman Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi presented a comprehensive report highlighting the scale and severity of the water crisis in the affected areas. The report detailed the names of the villages, estimated population size, timeline of disruption, and direct consequences on daily life.

According to the Chairman, the residents have been without proper water supply for weeks, forcing them to travel long distances or rely on expensive private tankers. This dire situation has placed a heavy financial burden on already struggling families and has also raised serious concerns over hygiene, sanitation, and public health. The situation is especially alarming for women, children, and the elderly, who are the most vulnerable during such shortages.

Chairman Brohi stressed that water is not a luxury—it is a human right. He made it clear that the ongoing crisis has crossed the threshold of inconvenience and has now become a matter of basic human survival and dignity.

Strong Appeal and Swift Response

Chairman Brohi made an emotional yet firm appeal to KWSC’s top officials, stating:

“This is not just a municipal issue. It is a humanitarian crisis. Continued inaction will only deepen public resentment and may lead to social unrest. We need an immediate and permanent solution—not temporary arrangements.”

In response, Managing Director Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and CEO Asadullah Khan acknowledged the seriousness of the problem and appreciated the Chairman’s initiative. They assured that full technical and administrative support would be provided without delay.

The officials issued on-the-spot orders for engineering teams to be dispatched immediately to the affected sites. These teams will conduct a ground-level technical assessment, identify the root causes—be it pipeline damage, pumping station faults, or distribution issues—and begin restoration work at the earliest.

A Collective Effort

The meeting also served as a platform for community leaders and dignitaries to express their grievances. Many of them narrated the hardships faced by residents, particularly during the hot summer months and ongoing school sessions where clean water is essential for both home and institutional use.

They demanded that KWSC ensure regular water supply schedules, install monitoring mechanisms, and establish a dedicated helpline for residents of Manghopir Town. These recommendations were taken positively by the KWSC leadership.

After the meeting, Chairman Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi addressed the media and community representatives, saying:

“I am thankful to the MD and CEO of KWSC for hearing our plea with compassion and urgency. Insha’Allah, water will be restored very soon. The people of Manghopir will no longer remain neglected.”

He added:
