Muzaffarabad: The political deadlock between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding the no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq has finally ended, paving the way for a potential change in the region’s leadership.

According to reliable sources, both parties have reached a political understanding after several rounds of backchannel discussions. The PML-N has agreed to support the no-confidence motion tabled by the PPP on the condition that fresh elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be announced soon after a new setup is formed.

The agreement reportedly came after intense negotiations involving senior leaders from both sides, facilitated by intermediaries in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad, who worked to resolve disagreements over the timing and terms of the power transition.

Sources reveal that under the emerging consensus, the new Prime Minister — expected to be chosen with the mutual consent of PPP and PML-N — will first ensure that pending constitutional appointments are made to key government positions before dissolving the assembly and paving the way for early elections. These appointments include important administrative and constitutional roles that have remained unfilled due to ongoing political instability.

The breakthrough marks a significant shift in AJK’s political landscape, where months of tension between the two ruling coalition partners had stalled governance and decision-making.
