All-rounder Mohammad Nawaz expressed his determination to play in accordance with the team’s needs, especially under the unfamiliar and testing conditions in the United States. Following Pakistan’s narrow loss against the West Indies in the second T20 International, Nawaz shared his insights about his role, performance, and future outlook.

Speaking to media after the match, Nawaz said, “The conditions here in the US are quite different, but I am constantly trying to adapt and train in a way that matches what the team expects from me. My role is to create an impact both with the ball and the bat, and I plan my practice sessions with that goal in mind.”

He emphasized that fulfilling the team’s demands is his top priority, regardless of whether it involves taking wickets or scoring crucial runs. Nawaz’s focus remains on being a dependable all-rounder who can contribute in both departments when the situation demands.

Praising his teammates, Nawaz acknowledged the fighting spirit displayed by young batter Hasan Nawaz and captain Salman Ali Agha. “They both batted admirably in difficult conditions. Their partnership against the spinners was vital. Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish the innings well, which proved costly in the end.”

Nawaz added that while his bowling performance has been consistent in both matches, he wasn’t satisfied with his batting contributions. “My bowling has been effective, and I’m happy about that. But I know I haven’t been able to bat the way I should. I’m working hard and believe that the batting results will come, just like they have with the ball.”

On the topic of conditions, Nawaz highlighted the challenges presented by the pitch in Florida. “The track is on the slower side, and that gives spinners an edge. It’s not necessary that only fast bowlers will pick up wickets in such settings. The slow nature of the pitch suits spinners, and we tried to use that to our advantage.”

Reflecting on individual performances, Nawaz defended fellow bowler Hasan Ali, who had an off day. “T20 cricket is unpredictable. Anyone can have a bad day. Today just happened to be Hasan Ali’s. He has served Pakistan well in the past, and one match doesn’t define a player.”

Analyzing the team’s total score of 134 runs, Nawaz admitted it wasn’t sufficient given the match conditions and format. “This wasn’t a strong enough target on this ground. Ideally, we should have scored around 150 or 160 to be in a better position. Despite that, I believe the bowling unit and the fielders fought valiantly, which was commendable.”

Nawaz was full of praise for the bowling attack, particularly for showing heart despite defending a low total. “To take the match to the final delivery while defending just 134 says a lot about the fighting spirit of our bowlers. They didn’t give up and showed character. It’s something we can build on.”
