Sukkur (Danish Rajput): Farmers staged a protest demonstration at Pyaro Wah Zero Point near Rohri, voicing their anger over the acute water shortage in small canals and minors including Garkano Minor, Bharo Minor, and Kotri Minor. The demonstration was led by community representatives Jamsher Mangrio, Abdul Kareem Phulpoto, Ghulam Shabir Mangrio, Sarwan Jatoi, Ghafoor Halipoto, and others.

Dozens of farmers and peasants participated, carrying placards and raising slogans against the Irrigation Department. Protesters alleged that due to weeks of water closure in the canals, major crops such as cotton, sugarcane, and others have reached the verge of destruction. This situation, they claimed, has pushed local peasants into a severe economic crisis.

According to the protesting farmers, negligence of the irrigation authorities coupled with illegal water distribution to influential landlords has deprived small farmers of their fair share. This unequal distribution, they argued, has left smaller growers devastated and unable to sustain their livelihoods.

Speaking on the occasion, protest leaders warned that if water supply was not restored immediately, they would be compelled to take more stringent measures. They demanded urgent intervention from higher authorities to ensure fair water distribution and protection of small growers’ rights.

The farmers emphasized that only equitable allocation of irrigation resources can save the rural economy from further collapse. They urged the Sindh government and irrigation officials to take corrective measures before the crisis escalates further.
