Sukkur Barrage’s Gate No. 43 Stuck in Silt, Structural Damage Feared
Sukkur Gate No. 43 of the Sukkur Barrage has become stuck in sandy silt, raising concerns about possible structural damage to the barrage.
According to details, Gate No. 43 of the Sukkur Barrage has been jammed due to the accumulation of silty sand, increasing the risk of harm to the structure of the barrage. Sources reveal that during the replacement of 16 gates under the Sindh Barrage Improvement Project, a cofferdam was constructed around Gate No. 43 by the project administration.
After the completion of the work, the cofferdams were removed from all other gates except Gate No. 43. The failure to remove the cofferdam from Gate No. 43 has caused the gate to get stuck in the silt. With the water level rising at the gate, there is a growing threat of structural damage to the barrage.
On the other hand, Project Director Pritam Das has acknowledged that Gate No. 43 is indeed stuck in silt and stated that the Chief Secretary has been informed through an official letter regarding the matter.
