Egypt Inaugurates ‘Octagon,’ a Massive New Defence Headquarters Spanning 22,000 Acres
Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has officially inaugurated the country’s new Strategic Command Headquarters, a vast military complex known as the “Octagon.”
The headquarters derives its name from its design, which features eight interconnected buildings forming the centerpiece of the sprawling defence facility.
Covering an area of approximately 22,000 acres, the Octagon is located in the heart of Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, about 45 kilometres east of Cairo.
The new headquarters has been established as a central command facility for Egypt’s armed forces and forms part of the government’s broader plan to relocate major state institutions to the newly developed administrative capital.
The inauguration reflects Egypt’s continued investment in modernizing its military infrastructure and strengthening strategic command and control capabilities.
The New Administrative Capital, where the Octagon is situated, has been developed to ease congestion in Cairo and serve as the country’s new administrative and governmental hub, housing ministries, government offices, diplomatic missions, and key national institutions.
