In Shadi Palli city of Umerkot district, the local administration has reportedly failed to control rising prices during the holy month of Ramadan and to properly enforce the Respect of Ramadan Ordinance, resulting in unchecked profiteering and hardship for residents. With the beginning of Ramadan, complaints have surged regarding the sale of fruits, vegetables, and other essential commodities at inflated and doubled prices. Shopkeepers and traders are allegedly charging arbitrary rates, taking advantage of increased demand during the sacred month.

Citizens and members of civil society have expressed serious concern over the situation, claiming that the prevailing crisis is the result of alleged collusion between certain market officials and local administrative authorities. According to them, responsible officers are often absent from the market during bidding times, allowing price lists to be prepared through mutual understanding that benefits traders while burdening poor consumers. Residents allege that instead of ensuring transparency and fairness, some officials have turned a blind eye to the issue, enabling profiteers to exploit the public openly.

On the other hand, violations of the Respect of Ramadan Ordinance are also being reported. In Shadi Palli city, hotels, sweet shops, and food outlets reportedly remain openly operational from 2:00 PM onwards, in clear disregard of the ordinance. Although local administrative officers conduct occasional visits to markets and bazaars, these actions are described by citizens as merely symbolic and ineffective, lacking seriousness and practical enforcement.

Residents have stated that if the local administration adopts a sincere and proactive approach, meaningful relief can be provided to the struggling public. They have urged higher authorities to take immediate notice of the situation, implement strict monitoring mechanisms, and ensure both price control and proper observance of the Ramadan regulations to protect the interests of ordinary citizens during the holy month.
