Misbah-ul-Haq Urges Coaches and Parents Not to Put Unnecessary Pressure on Young Cricketers

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain, national selector, and batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy, Misbah-ul-Haq, has advised young cricketers to focus on discipline, consistency, and hard work, while urging coaches, mentors, and parents to avoid placing unnecessary pressure on aspiring players.

Speaking in an interview with PCB Digital, Misbah said that developing young talent requires patience and a supportive environment, emphasizing that excessive expectations can hinder a player’s growth and confidence.

He encouraged young cricketers to remain committed to their training and maintain discipline both on and off the field, describing consistency as one of the most important qualities for achieving long-term success in professional cricket.

“Discipline and consistency are the keys to success,” Misbah said, adding that players should concentrate on improving their skills rather than worrying about immediate results.

Addressing coaches, mentors, and parents, Misbah stressed that their role is to guide and motivate young athletes rather than burden them with unrealistic expectations.

He noted that constant pressure to perform can negatively affect a youngster’s confidence and enjoyment of the game, making it harder for them to develop naturally.

Misbah also highlighted the importance of allowing players to learn from mistakes, saying that setbacks are a normal part of a cricketer’s journey and can contribute significantly to personal and professional development.

The former Pakistan captain urged young players to stay focused on continuous improvement, maintain a positive attitude, and trust the process of learning instead of seeking instant success.

Misbah has long been regarded as one of Pakistan’s most respected cricketing figures, known for his calm leadership and disciplined approach to the game. During his playing career, he led Pakistan to several memorable victories and was widely praised for rebuilding the national team during a challenging period.

As batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy, he continues to play an important role in nurturing the next generation of Pakistani cricketers by sharing his experience and promoting a culture of discipline, professionalism, and perseverance.

His latest advice reflects the Pakistan Cricket Board’s broader emphasis on creating a healthy development environment for young players, where talent can flourish through proper coaching, encouragement, and sustained hard work rather than pressure and unrealistic expectations.
