Public Awami Tehreek’s Central Coordination Secretary, Lal Jarwar, held a press conference at the Padidan Press Club where he strongly criticized the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment. According to him, the amendment seeks to grant lifelong privileges to the President, Prime Minister, and Field Marshal, which he described as an attempt to discard the Constitution and legal framework of Pakistan and replace it with a system resembling monarchy. He stated that such actions undermine democratic principles and reflect a dangerous trend of centralizing absolute power.

During the press conference, Lal Jarwar argued that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have jointly paved the way for what he referred to as a “hybrid martial law.” He claimed that both ruling parties have fully aligned themselves with the establishment and have acted as its facilitators rather than as representatives of the public. According to him, these parties have lost the moral and political authority to claim representation of the 250 million people of Pakistan, as they have compromised public trust for the sake of political power and benefits.

One of the major concerns raised was the alleged impact of the amendment on the rights and resources of Sindh. Lal Jarwar stated that through the 27th Amendment, efforts are being made to seize Sindh’s mineral resources, which would not only violate provincial autonomy but also strike at the very identity and economic foundation of Sindh. He argued that such measures are tantamount to undermining the historical, cultural, and political existence of the Sindhi nation.

He reiterated that Sindh is the foundational province in the creation of Pakistan, with a civilizational history dating back over five thousand years. Attempting to dilute the identity of Sindhi people or strip them of their rights and heritage, he argued, is a deliberate and unacceptable act of injustice. Lal Jarwar asserted that a systematic plan is being executed to dispossess the indigenous inhabitants of Sindh and make them strangers in their own land. According to him, this is not just a constitutional matter but an existential issue that concerns the survival and dignity of the Sindhi nation.

Another major critique raised in the press conference was the effect of the amendment on the country’s judicial system. Lal Jarwar claimed that by curbing or limiting the powers of the judiciary, the government is effectively dismantling the mechanism for justice and accountability. He stated that such actions would lead to the burial of justice in Pakistan, where powerful individuals would remain above the law while ordinary citizens would be left without any legal recourse.
