Iraqi Air Force Expresses Interest in Pilot Exchange with Pakistan for Training Support

Islamabad (September 11, 2025): The Iraqi Air Force has requested Pakistan’s assistance in developing a modern training system and expressed a desire to benefit from pilot exchange postings with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

A high-level Iraqi defense delegation, led by the Commander of the Iraqi Air Force, met Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu at Air Headquarters in Islamabad. The two sides discussed multiple areas of bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on joint training, capacity building, and the development of the aviation industry.

During the meeting, the Air Chief highlighted the deep religious and historical ties between Pakistan and Iraq, calling them the foundation of strong relations between the two air forces. He reaffirmed PAF’s commitment to continue supporting the Iraqi Air Force in its training and capacity-building initiatives.

Both sides agreed to hold joint exercises and training programs to enhance cooperation and operational harmony.

The Iraqi Air Force Commander praised the professional leadership of the PAF, describing it as one of the region’s most advanced and technically proficient air forces. He explained that Iraq seeks to reorganize its entire training system—from basic to advanced operational and combat levels—and requested Pakistan’s support in this endeavor.

Acknowledging PAF’s world-class training expertise, the Iraqi Commander said his force also wished to benefit from exchange postings of Pakistani pilots, enabling Iraqi aviators to learn directly from Pakistan’s experienced and combat-ready professionals.
