Peshawar: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that establishing sustainable peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has become indispensable.

Speaking at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Security Workshop, the Prime Minister acknowledged the province’s unparalleled sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and highlighted the government’s ongoing practical measures to further improve law and order. He stated that sustainable peace in KP is now a necessity.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed that national security is the government’s top priority, and a comprehensive strategy is being implemented to address internal and external security challenges. He praised the sacrifices of security forces in combating terrorism and reiterated the state’s determination to eradicate terrorism from its roots, calling on everyone to unite against extremism.

He further added that Pakistan’s development cannot be one-sided: “If Punjab progresses while other provinces lag, it is not true national progress. The country will advance only when all provinces develop together.”

Highlighting federal support, he noted that Punjab provided 100 billion PKR to Balochistan, and the federal government is funding key roads and 40 billion PKR for solar tube wells in Balochistan. Similarly, other provinces contributed 800 billion PKR to support KP in its counter-terrorism efforts.

The Prime Minister also praised the patriotic stance of KP citizens, who supported Pakistan in the referendum, and recalled Pakistan’s military successes, including the downing of seven Indian aircraft last year, reflecting the nation’s growing strength and international respect.

On regional matters, he said that Pakistan has hosted 4 million Afghan refugees and stressed that Afghanistan must decide whether it wants peace. He urged the Afghan interim government to act compassionately towards its people and guide youth away from extremism toward positive development.

The Prime Minister concluded by congratulating the newly appointed KP Chief Minister over the phone, receiving thanks in return.
