Foreign Backing Behind Terrorism in Pakistan, Says Information Minister Attaullah Tarar
Islamabad, July 31, 2025 — Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information, Attaullah Tarar, has asserted that the recent wave of terrorism in the country is being orchestrated and supported by foreign powers. Speaking at a high-level seminar on South Asian peace hosted by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in Islamabad, the minister accused India of backing terrorism in the region and destabilizing efforts to promote peace across South Asia.
In his keynote address, Attaullah Tarar emphasized that Pakistan has consistently played a proactive and sincere role in fostering regional stability and dialogue. “Pakistan is committed to peace, but our goodwill should not be mistaken for weakness,” he said. He went on to label India’s Hindutva ideology as a grave threat to regional peace, calling it a catalyst for increased communal and geopolitical tensions in South Asia.
“The Hindutva mindset has fueled aggression and extremism that jeopardize peace not just in India, but across the region,” Tarar said. “New Delhi has systematically undermined peace initiatives and has taken deliberate steps to disrupt the balance of power in South Asia. We must now look at the strategic dynamics of the region through a new lens.”
Referring to the recent Pahalgam incident, where India alleged Pakistani involvement in a militant attack, Tarar firmly rejected the accusations. “The blame placed on Pakistan for the Pahalgam incident is baseless and politically motivated. We have called for an impartial and international investigation into the matter,” he said. “Pakistan is presenting its case at diplomatic forums worldwide, making it clear that we want transparency and truth.”
Tarar highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing role as a victim of terrorism. He shared that Pakistan has sacrificed over 90,000 lives in its fight against terrorism, more than any other country in the region. “No other nation has borne the brunt of terrorism the way Pakistan has. We’ve paid the highest price for peace, and yet, we’re being blamed. This is unjust and unacceptable,” he stated.
He further accused India of waging water aggression by unilaterally violating the Indus Waters Treaty — a critical water-sharing agreement between the two nations. “Water is a matter of survival for Pakistan. We will not compromise on it. India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is a clear act of hostility and cannot be tolerated,” the minister said. He added that India’s weaponization of water is not only a breach of international agreements but also a direct threat to millions of Pakistanis who depend on these water sources.
The federal minister reiterated that Pakistan possesses the capability and resolve to respond to any form of aggression. He noted that Pakistan’s armed forces and diplomatic channels are fully prepared to defend the country’s interests at all levels — militarily, politically, and strategically.
On the issue of Kashmir, Tarar reaffirmed Pakistan’s long-standing position. He stated that durable peace in South Asia is impossible without the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. “The Kashmir issue has once again gained global attention after the recent developments,” he said. “It is not just a territorial dispute — it’s a question of fundamental human rights and the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir.”
Tarar urged the international community to play a more active role in resolving the Kashmir conflict in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. He said that the people of Kashmir have endured decades of oppression under Indian rule, and it is high time that the world steps in to support a peaceful and just resolution.
He also pointed out the double standards of the global community when it comes to South Asia. “Whenever a terrorist incident occurs in India, fingers are quickly pointed at Pakistan without evidence. But when Pakistan suffers, the world remains silent,” he lamented.
Tarar concluded his speech by reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace and regional stability. He stressed that peace cannot be achieved through force or intimidation but through dialogue, justice, and respect for international laws. “Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be seen as a weakness. We have always advocated diplomacy over conflict, but we are fully capable of defending our sovereignty and interests.”
The seminar was attended by senior government officials, foreign diplomats, defense analysts, and civil society members. The attendees praised the minister’s candid and assertive remarks, viewing them as a necessary counter-narrative to India’s growing regional influence and propaganda.
This latest statement by Attaullah Tarar underscores Pakistan’s evolving diplomatic posture — one that is increasingly assertive in challenging Indian narratives and highlighting its own sacrifices and commitment to peace. With tensions once again on the rise in the region, his remarks are likely to reverberate through diplomatic channels and renew global conversations on unresolved regional disputes, particularly the Kashmir issue.
As South Asia continues to grapple with old rivalries and new strategic alignments, Pakistan is signaling its readiness to both confront challenges and engage in constructive dialogue — but on terms rooted in equality, justice, and mutual respect.
