Islamabad: According to the latest annual report released by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), 97% of Pakistan’s population is officially registered.

The report, submitted to the Ministry of Interior, provides detailed statistics on citizen registration across the country. NADRA spokesperson Shabahat Ali shared a one-year performance update via a video statement.

As per the report, the total number of registered citizens in Pakistan stands at 227 million, with 48% women and 52% men. This reflects a comprehensive coverage of nearly the entire population, ensuring that citizens are documented in the national database.

The spokesperson noted that while 31.9 million children have their births recorded at union councils, they are yet to be fully registered with NADRA.

NADRA’s biometric database is extensive, containing facial recognition data of 170 million citizens, 1.68 billion fingerprints, and iris data of 7 million individuals.

Over the past year, overall registration has increased by 11%, child registrations rose by 18%, and female registrations grew by 8%, indicating progress in inclusive documentation.

Currently, 938 NADRA registration centers are operational nationwide. In 2025 alone, 75 new centers and 138 additional counters were established. Services for overseas Pakistanis were also expanded to facilitate registration and ease of access.

Additionally, the NADRA Pak ID application has taken over 15% of registration responsibilities and has surpassed 12 million downloads, further streamlining citizen access to registration services.
