Iranian Foreign Minister Warns of Defensive Measures if Nuclear Deal Fails

Tehran: Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, has stated that the only solution to the nuclear issue lies in diplomatic negotiations, but if no agreement is reached, Iran is prepared to take necessary steps to defend itself.

In an interview with American media, Araghchi said that within two to three days, a preliminary draft of a potential nuclear deal will be prepared. Upon approval, this draft will be handed over to the U.S. special envoy. He emphasized that during negotiations, Iran did not offer to halt uranium enrichment, nor did the U.S. request such a concession. Both nations’ negotiators are working rapidly toward a possible agreement.

Araghchi underlined that there is no military solution to the nuclear issue, and diplomacy remains the only viable path. However, he warned that if negotiations fail, Iran is ready to take defensive measures. “We are prepared for both diplomacy and war,” he said, adding that any U.S. attack would further complicate the situation and could have catastrophic consequences not only for Iran but for the entire region and the international community.

He also sent a message to the U.S. president and Congress members, stating that American administrations have already tried nearly every tactic against Iran, including war, sanctions, and the snapback mechanism, but none have succeeded.

Araghchi stressed a principle of reciprocity: if Iran is addressed with respect, it will respond in kind; if approached with force, Iran will respond with strength.

This statement comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that he is considering a limited strike against Iran, raising concerns over potential escalation in the region.
