PTI Signals Readiness for Talks with Government, Welcomes Prime Minister’s Offer
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the government, with party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan welcoming Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent offer for negotiations and calling for the process to begin without further delay.
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, Barrister Gohar said PTI is prepared for talks and wants clarity on why progress toward negotiations has not yet been made.
PTI Welcomes Dialogue Offer
Addressing lawmakers, the PTI chairman stated that the party views the prime minister’s invitation positively and is ready to participate in meaningful discussions.
“We welcome the prime minister’s offer,” Barrister Gohar said. “We would like to know what is causing the delay in these negotiations.”
He added that one of PTI’s key demands is access to the party’s founder, stressing that communication with the party leadership is important for any dialogue process to move forward effectively.
Call for a Better Political Atmosphere
Barrister Gohar also commented on the tone of parliamentary proceedings, noting that the session did not begin in a constructive manner between government and opposition members.
He urged all sides to demonstrate patience and tolerance, arguing that a more respectful political environment would help reduce tensions and political polarization.
“Repeatedly showing restraint and patience can reduce hostility and mistrust,” he said.
According to Gohar, strengthening Parliament requires a collective commitment from all political stakeholders to uphold democratic norms and respectful conduct.
Concerns Over Suspension of PTI Lawmaker
The PTI chairman also raised the issue of party member Iqbal Afridi, who was suspended during parliamentary proceedings.
Gohar criticized the decision and urged the authorities to allow the lawmaker to return to the assembly for the remainder of the session.
He argued that participation by all elected representatives is important for healthy parliamentary debate and democratic functioning.
Acceptance of Apology
During his speech, Barrister Gohar referred to an apology reportedly offered by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and said that PTI accepted the gesture.
The acknowledgment was viewed as a positive sign amid ongoing tensions between the government and opposition.
Political observers noted that such conciliatory exchanges may help create a more favorable environment for broader political dialogue.
Background of Negotiation Offer
The latest development follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s invitation on June 13, in which he once again called on PTI to engage in talks with the government.
The proposal was presented as part of efforts to address political differences through dialogue rather than confrontation.
Since then, political circles have closely watched for indications from PTI regarding its response, and Barrister Gohar’s remarks appear to signal a willingness to move forward with discussions.
Importance of Dialogue
Political analysts believe that negotiations between the government and PTI could help ease political tensions and create opportunities for consensus on key national issues.
Pakistan’s political landscape has remained highly polarized in recent years, with disputes over elections, governance, parliamentary procedures, and legal matters frequently dominating public debate.
Observers argue that sustained dialogue between major political stakeholders could contribute to greater political stability and institutional cooperation.
Looking Ahead
While PTI has now publicly indicated its readiness for negotiations, questions remain regarding the format, agenda, and timeline of any potential talks.
The party’s demand for access to its founder is likely to be a central issue in preliminary discussions. Meanwhile, both government and opposition leaders may need to agree on confidence-building measures before formal negotiations can begin.
For now, Barrister Gohar’s statement marks a notable shift toward engagement, suggesting that the door to political dialogue remains open if both sides can agree on the framework and conditions for meaningful talks.
