The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has strongly condemned the Punjab government for halting the supply of wheat seeds to Sindh, warning that millions of acres of wheat cultivation in the province are at risk. The PPP termed the move as an act of discrimination against Sindh and demanded immediate federal intervention.

PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the Punjab government’s Agriculture Regulatory Authority and the Department of Food have stopped seed supply to Sindh under provincial directives, which could drastically affect the upcoming wheat season. “If Punjab does not resume supply immediately, Sindh’s wheat production will face a significant decline, causing economic damage to farmers and the province,” Khuhro stated.

He noted that Pakistan annually produces around 552,000 metric tons of wheat seed, with Punjab’s seed-producing companies contributing 516,000 metric tons. Despite advance payments made by Sindh’s farmers and companies, Punjab has restricted seed shipments to Sindh — an act Khuhro described as “anti-farmer and a violation of provincial harmony.”

Khuhro demanded that the Prime Minister intervene to ensure Punjab resumes seed supplies, warning that the federal and Punjab governments would bear responsibility for any agricultural losses.

In the same statement, Khuhro also criticized the federal government for anti-worker measures — including the termination of 11,000 Utility Stores Corporation employees, non-payment of over Rs 27 billion in dues, and withholding Rs 172 billion collected under the Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) from Sindh’s industrial units.
