The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee has reaffirmed its confidence in national T20 captain Salman Ali Agha, signaling that he will continue to lead the Green Shirts in the upcoming series against South Africa.

According to sources, Captain Salman Ali Agha and head coach Mike Hesson recently held an in-depth discussion regarding team preparations for both the South Africa series and the ICC T20 World Cup. Both agreed that the team’s combination should be further strengthened and balanced before the mega event.

An important meeting between the team management and selection committee is expected soon to finalize player selections. Reports suggest that a white-ball training camp may be organized alongside the Test series against South Africa, with potential squad members to be announced shortly.

However, initial indications suggest that former captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan are unlikely to return to the T20 squad. The PCB and coaching staff have expressed complete trust in Salman Ali Agha’s leadership and intend to retain him as captain, with plans for him to continue batting at the crucial No. 3 position.

Salman Ali Agha, who has scored 561 runs in 32 T20 internationals at a strike rate of 110.21, faced criticism for his modest performance in the Asia Cup—managing just 72 runs in seven matches. Despite this, both the board and head coach Hesson are not considering a captaincy change before the World Cup.

Meanwhile, despite his poor Asia Cup campaign in which he was dismissed for a duck four times, opener Saim Ayub is expected to retain his place in the white-ball setup, even though he was dropped from the Test squad. Similarly, wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris is not under threat, though there may be changes in the fast-bowling department, with Haris Rauf’s position reportedly under review.

Sources close to the team reveal that while both Hesson and Agha were disappointed with Pakistan’s Asia Cup final defeat, they believe in maintaining stability and giving the current group of players consistent opportunities. As a result, the chances of recalling Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for the South Africa T20 series remain extremely slim.
