Former popular actress Sarah Ameer has opened up about the darker side of Pakistan’s entertainment world, making sensational claims about favoritism, nepotism, and the notorious “parchi system” that, according to her, dominates casting decisions and deprives genuine talent of opportunities.

Speaking in a recent television program, Sarah candidly revealed that despite receiving offers for several strong roles, she often lost them to others simply because influential recommendations—or “parchis”—came from higher authorities. “Many times I was finalized for a project,” she said, “but the role was suddenly handed to someone else because a more powerful name intervened.”

Early Career and Bollywood Offer

Sarah recalled her early days in the industry when she surprisingly received a Bollywood film offer through Eveready Productions. She credited Eveready for introducing her into the field, as her debut project was also under their banner.

At the time, Eveready and Bollywood were collaborating on joint ventures, and Sarah’s offer was part of such a cross-border project. Around the same period, actress Meera’s film with director Mahesh Bhatt had just been released, and he was also working on the proposed Indo-Pak project that Sarah was considered for.

However, Sarah never became part of that opportunity. Her family strictly opposed the idea, fearing backlash and uncertainty. “I was too new in the industry, my mother and I were terrified. We didn’t even fully understand Pakistan’s showbiz environment—how could we judge what India would be like? Out of fear, I remained silent and let the chance pass,” she explained.

The “Parchi” System and Missed Opportunities

Discussing the industry’s inner politics, Sarah emphasized how powerful recommendations outweigh talent. She revealed that many deserving actors lose chances due to sudden interventions. “Some channels and production houses openly follow this system. A role may be offered to you, but if a parchi arrives from above, the opportunity is gone,” she remarked.

Still, Sarah maintains a spiritual perspective on her losses. “I accept it as Allah’s will. Maybe the person who replaced me needed the job more than I did,” she said.

“Actors Without Acting Skills”

In a blunt statement, Sarah criticized the presence of unskilled actresses in the industry who still manage to secure prominent roles. “There are many actresses who don’t know acting at all, but because their parchis are powerful, they continue to get work,” she claimed. However, she refrained from naming anyone.
