Flood Situation at Taunsa, Guddu, and Sukkur Barrages on Indus River
There is a medium-level flood at Taunsa Barrage and a low-level flood at Guddu and Sukkur Barrages on the Indus River. Water levels are continuously rising at Rajanpur, Ghotki, and Taunsa, resulting in several localities in Taunsa being submerged.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the inflow and outflow at Taunsa Barrage are recorded at 426,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, water levels have reached 1,527 feet at Tarbela Dam and 1,184 feet at Mangla Dam.
In Rajanpur, residents of the riverine (katcha) areas are continuing to evacuate to safer locations.
Commissioner Ashfaq Chaudhry’s Visit to Ghazi Ghat
Commissioner Ashfaq Chaudhry visited Ghazi Ghat on the Indus River to assess the flood situation. He noted a risk of both riverine and hill torrents in Taunsa, Koh-e-Suleman, and Dera Ghazi Khan, prompting the establishment of relief and medical camps. Flash floods have also been reported in Koh-e-Suleman’s rain-fed streams.
As per DG Khan Commissioner, the recorded flows are:
- Wador Stream: 32,000 cusecs
- Sori Stream: 12,400 cusecs
- Wahwa Stream: 5,000 cusecs
- Sangarh Stream: 7,000 cusecs
- Mithawan Stream: 14,000 cusecs
The commissioner assured that authorities are on high alert and emphasized that protecting lives and property is the top priority. For now, he stated, there is no immediate major threat.
