U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he is willing to engage in discussions with “whoever is in charge” in Iran, adding that Tehran can contact Washington whenever it chooses.

Speaking to reporters, Trump addressed recent diplomatic developments and explained the cancellation of a planned visit by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan. He said the trip was called off after being informed that Iranian officials were expected to meet on Tuesday, which he considered too delayed given the urgency of the situation.

Trump remarked that his representatives were prepared to hold talks with Iranian leadership, but according to him, arrangements were being directed toward meetings with other parties instead. He emphasized that time-sensitive diplomacy could not be postponed by several days due to logistical delays.

The U.S. president further stated that he is open to dealing with whoever is effectively leading Iran, suggesting uncertainty or internal competition within the country’s power structure. He claimed that Iran is experiencing internal divisions and ongoing struggles over leadership roles.

According to Trump, U.S. officials were presented with a proposal document regarding potential discussions. He added that after the cancellation of the delegation’s visit, an updated version of the document was received within minutes, which he described as an improvement over the previous one.

He also said that Iran has made various offers in relation to negotiations, but stressed that these were not sufficient from the American perspective. When asked about a possible ceasefire or de-escalation, Trump said he had not yet considered that aspect.

The remarks come amid heightened diplomatic activity and conflicting statements from both sides regarding negotiations, timelines, and conditions for engagement. While the U.S. signals openness to dialogue, significant differences remain over process and expectations.
