A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad, Zainul Abideen Memon, at his office in Shahbaz Building, Hyderabad.

During the meeting, it was decided that immediate and strict action would be taken against the dilapidated buildings in the city of Hyderabad.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Directors of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), the Municipal Commissioner of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC), and Assistant Commissioners of all four tehsils.

The meeting emphasized that ignoring any dilapidated building is equivalent to playing with people’s lives, and such negligence would never be tolerated.

Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abideen Memon stated that his primary priority is the protection of human lives. He emphasized that dangerous buildings or those that cannot be repaired should be evacuated immediately, and if necessary, demolished.

He further mentioned that last year, 74 dilapidated buildings had been identified, some of which had been repaired, but many buildings still remain a threat.

The Deputy Commissioners instructed all Assistant Commissioners to immediately collaborate with SBCA to prepare a new list and conduct a field survey to identify dilapidated buildings.

SBCA officials stated that despite notices being issued, some buildings had not been vacated. In response, the Deputy Commissioner gave clear instructions that wherever residents are not cooperating, buildings should be evacuated with the help of the police. Additionally, FIRs should be lodged and legal action should be taken in accordance with SBCA regulations.

He further assured that police security would be provided at all possible points and the machinery shortages in the region would be addressed.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed that public service messages be prominently displayed on city walls and intersections so that the public can inform the authorities about dilapidated buildings in a timely manner and assist the administration in this campaign.

He further announced that the next meeting would be held on 14th July, where the new list and inspection photo reports would be presented.

In his speech, DC Zainul Abideen Memon clearly stated that no dilapidated building in Hyderabad would be allowed to accommodate the public.

In this regard, every possible legal action would be taken, and practical steps would be implemented to ensure the protection of people’s lives and property.
