Ishaq Dar meets SCO secretary-general, outlines Pakistan’s priorities as new chair

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar Tuesday met the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Bishkek and outlined Pakistan’s priorities and strategy after assuming the SCO chairmanship for 2026-27, the Foreign Office said.

During the meeting, the SCO secretary-general congratulated Pakistan on assuming the chairmanship of the organization and assured full cooperation and support for the country’s priorities during its tenure.

Dar briefed the secretary-general on Pakistan’s planned approach and key priorities for the SCO chairmanship.

The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and undertake joint efforts to advance the organization’s agenda during Pakistan’s chairmanship.

The SCO secretary-general assured Pakistan of the secretariat’s full cooperation in implementing its priorities and facilitating activities planned during the chairmanship period.

Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and Pakistan’s SCO National Coordinator Muhammad Faisal also attended the meeting.

Pakistan assumed the SCO chairmanship for 2026-27 in September 2026.

As part of its chairmanship, Pakistan is also scheduled to host the next SCO summit in 2027.
