Ghotki water case: Most water samples unhygienic, says report
SUKKUR: The water in Ghotki has been unhygienic for human health, a PCRWR report submitted to the Sindh High Court Sukkur bench disclosed on Tuesday.
The court was hearing a petition against release of untreated and polluted water from factories of Punjab and Ghotki district into the sub-soil water.
The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) submitted its report of the water samples in the court.
According to the report, during a span of one month 337 water samples were collected from various parts of Ghotki district and 247 water samples of them were found unsuited to human consumption.
“The PCRWR team was not allowed entry in factories thus the water samples could not be collected from the water being released from factories,” according to the report.
The high court bench comprises of Justice Arbab Ali Hakro and Justice Muhammad Usman Hadi, directed for handing over the report to petitioner and invited objections over the report in the next hearing of the case.
Petitioner’s lawyer Shahnawaz Waseer said that the report shows that the water in various parts of Ghotki has been hazardous for human health.
The court adjourned further hearing of the case until October 08.
