Sukkur, July 6, 2025 (10th Muharram 1447 AH):
Government of Sindh spokesperson and Mayor of Sukkur, Barrister Arslan Islam Shaikh, along with Sukkur Deputy Commissioner Dr. M.B. Raja Dharejo and SSP Sukkur Azhar Mughal, inspected various routes of the Ashura mourning processions and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements.

While speaking to the media on this occasion, Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arslan Islam Shaikh said that in connection with Ashura, the Sindh government is giving top priority to all administrative affairs including health, lighting, and cleanliness. Thousands of personnel are performing their duties to ensure the public receives all possible facilities and security.

He stated that the largest Ashura procession in Pakistan takes place in Sukkur, and security for this event has been given the highest priority. He mentioned that over 2,500 personnel have been deployed to ensure foolproof security, while the procession is also being continuously monitored through drone surveillance and CCTV cameras. All these operations are being carried out in coordination with the district administration and police.

The mayor further said that keeping in view the current intense heat and participation of hundreds of thousands of people, various facilities have been arranged. These include more than 50 medical camps, over 30 Rescue 1122 ambulances, 14 independent washrooms, 25 sabeels (refreshment points), and water showering stations. Additionally, over 1,800 streetlights have been installed along the procession routes to ensure the event concludes smoothly and peacefully.

On this occasion, SSP Sukkur Azhar Mughal also addressed the media and said that the Ashura procession in Sukkur holds significant importance among the major Muharram processions in Pakistan. In this regard, Sukkur police have made foolproof security arrangements under a ten-day security plan. He informed that more than 2,500 police personnel have been deployed across the district, while over 1,100 officers are specifically assigned for the security of processions within Sukkur city.

Moreover, over 300 trained scouts have also been deployed to assist at various locations. SSP Sukkur added that more than 350 Rangers personnel have been stationed at key locations. Special Branch and CTD (Counter Terrorism Department) personnel are also playing an active role in security monitoring, and traffic police officers have been deployed to maintain traffic flow.

He emphasized that the police have made complete and coordinated security arrangements and expressed hope that the days of Muharram will pass peacefully and safely, Insha’Allah.
