Hizbe Wahdat Islami protests Taliban restrictions on Hazara, Shia communities
Hizbe Wahdat Islami on Monday strongly protested against the Afghan authorities over what it described as discriminatory measures against Hazara and Shia communities, including restrictions on their political, religious, and property rights.
The group alleged that the Taliban regime had withdrawn the official status previously granted to the Jafari school of Islamic jurisprudence and imposed restrictions on Ashura commemorations, including what it described as disrespect towards Hussaini symbols and flags.
Hizbe Wahdat claimed that nearly 10 million Afghans had been deprived of political rights and meaningful participation in the state system.
It also alleged that thousands of Hazara and Shia families in Ghazni had been severely affected by the seizure of their properties.
In Kabul, the group said, Taliban authorities had declared certain lands as allegedly usurped and taken control of them, leaving thousands of families in uncertainty.
In Herat, it claimed, a market had been forcibly declared “property of the Emirate.”
The group further alleged that Shia religious scholars had faced humiliation and pressure over personal and religious matters.
It also accused Taliban forces of conducting an armed raid on Khatam al-Nabieen School and University in Kabul, during which teachers and students were allegedly arrested.
Hizbe Wahdat said the Taliban had also closed an office used by Hazara elders and members of the Shia community for communication and coordination, with several people reportedly arrested.
The group condemned the measures and called for an end to what it described as systematic discrimination against Hazara and Shia communities.
