Pakistan’s security forces have carried out two successful intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the killing of 13 Indian-backed Khawarij militants, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operations are part of ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and restore peace in the province, which has faced persistent security challenges in recent years.

The ISPR said the operations were conducted on the basis of credible intelligence indicating the presence of militants involved in terrorist activities targeting security forces and civilians. The actions demonstrate the continued resolve of Pakistan’s armed forces to eliminate threats posed by militant networks operating in the region.

According to the military’s media wing, the first operation was carried out in the Bannu district. During this intelligence-based raid, security forces effectively engaged militant hideouts and eliminated eight Khawarij. The ISPR stated that the troops moved swiftly and professionally, ensuring that the operation was conducted with precision and effectiveness.

“The security forces successfully neutralized eight Khawarij during the operation in Bannu,” the statement said, adding that militant positions were accurately targeted, preventing their escape and disrupting their operational capabilities. Weapons and ammunition were also reportedly recovered from the site, though further details were not immediately disclosed.

The second operation took place in the Kurram district, where security forces targeted another group of militants. During this action, five Khawarij were killed following an exchange. The ISPR said that the militants were actively involved in planning and executing terrorist activities in the area and posed a serious threat to local peace and stability.

“These Indian-backed Khawarij were involved in multiple acts of terrorism and were being tracked through intelligence efforts,” the ISPR noted. “Their elimination will significantly degrade the operational capacity of militant networks in the region.”

The term “Khawarij” is used by Pakistani authorities to describe extremist militants who, according to the state narrative, misuse religion to justify violence and terrorism. Officials have repeatedly stated that such groups receive external support aimed at destabilizing Pakistan, particularly in border regions.

Security analysts say that Bannu and Kurram have remained sensitive areas due to their strategic location and history of militant activity. In recent months, security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations to preempt attacks and dismantle militant infrastructure before it can be used against civilians or law enforcement personnel.

Local sources reported that residents heard gunfire during the operations but confirmed that no civilian casualties were reported. Authorities stated that care was taken to avoid harm to non-combatants, and the operations were concluded after clearing the targeted areas.

Pakistan’s security establishment has consistently emphasized that counterterrorism operations are conducted with a focus on protecting the civilian population while ensuring that militants are denied space to operate. The ISPR reiterated that security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from the country.

“The security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism,” the ISPR said, adding that such operations will continue until peace and stability are fully restored in affected regions.

In recent years, Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns at international forums about alleged external support to militant groups operating on its soil. Officials argue that these networks aim to create instability and undermine development efforts, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Government representatives have welcomed the latest operations, calling them a significant step toward improving the security situation. They stressed that sustained intelligence coordination and cooperation between law enforcement agencies are essential to maintaining long-term peace.

Residents of the affected districts expressed cautious relief following the operations. Many have endured years of insecurity and hope that decisive action against militant groups will lead to lasting calm. “People want peace so that normal life can continue,” said a local elder in Bannu. “Such actions give us hope, but stability must be maintained.”

The ISPR concluded its statement by honoring the professionalism and bravery of the troops involved and reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces, in coordination with intelligence agencies, will continue operations against terrorist elements wherever they are found.
