Islamabad — In a landmark move, Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) has for the first time allowed Pakistani students to view their marked examination answer scripts online. The initiative is being hailed as a breakthrough in transparency, enabling students to better understand their performance and make informed decisions about whether to request scrutiny of their results.

Uzma Yousaf, Country Director for Cambridge Assessment International Education in Pakistan, confirmed the development in an official statement. “Students will now be able to see their answer scripts online,” she explained. “After reviewing their scripts, they can decide whether or not they wish to apply for scrutiny. This process is entirely free of cost.”

The new facility is expected to have a significant impact in Pakistan, where the number of Cambridge students is the largest in the world at both A-Level and O-Level stages. According to Yousaf, nearly 130,000 students in Pakistan are registered with Cambridge, and about 800 schools across the country are affiliated with the system.

Previously, one of the recurring concerns among students and parents in Pakistan was the lack of access to detailed feedback on marked scripts. Many students, dissatisfied with their grades, were forced to apply for rechecks without fully knowing where they had underperformed. The introduction of answer script viewing is therefore being seen as a way to increase accountability, reduce unnecessary scrutiny requests, and improve overall trust in the examination process.

Education experts in Pakistan have also welcomed the move, saying it will help students identify areas of weakness and prepare more effectively for future exams. Teachers will also benefit from being able to analyze actual student responses against Cambridge marking schemes, allowing them to refine teaching strategies in line with international assessment standards.

Cambridge officials emphasized that the initiative is part of their broader commitment to innovation and fairness in global education. With Pakistan hosting the largest number of Cambridge candidates worldwide, the rollout here first carries particular symbolic importance. “This is not just a service; it is a recognition of Pakistan’s central place in the Cambridge system,” Yousaf remarked.

The facility has already been made available to schools affiliated with Cambridge, meaning students across the country can immediately begin accessing their scripts. The online system is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring that even students with minimal technical experience can review their papers with ease.

The announcement has generated excitement among students, many of whom believe this will reduce anxiety around results. Some have also pointed out that transparency in grading could deter claims of unfair marking, a complaint often raised after Cambridge exam results are released each year.

For Pakistan’s education sector, where international examinations like O- and A-Levels are considered highly prestigious, this reform is viewed as a step toward empowering students and strengthening confidence in the system.

By giving students direct access to their exam papers—something that was previously restricted—Cambridge has opened the door to a more transparent, student-centered assessment culture.
