Dera Ismail Khan, September 21, 2025 – In a decisive intelligence-based operation, Pakistan’s security forces successfully neutralized seven militants affiliated with the so-called “Fitna al-Khawarij” group in the Kalachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the action took place on September 20 after credible intelligence was received about the presence of terrorists supported by Indian networks.

During the operation, security personnel carried out a precise strike on the militants’ hideout. The confrontation led to the elimination of all seven terrorists, which included two suicide bombers and three Afghan nationals. ISPR emphasized that the slain fighters were not only operating under the influence of Indian sponsorship but were also actively involved in cross-border terrorism against Pakistan.

The operation highlights the continuing challenges faced by Pakistan in combating militant outfits that exploit regional instability. Intelligence reports have consistently warned about proxy networks being supported and directed from across the border, particularly from India, to fuel unrest in Pakistan’s sensitive areas. This latest success, officials said, was part of a broader strategy to dismantle such proxy cells before they could carry out attacks on civilian populations or security installations.

Following the operation, security forces initiated a sanitization process in and around the Kalachi region to ensure that no further militant elements were hiding in the area. This step is aimed at clearing any potential threats and preventing regrouping of foreign-backed militants. The ISPR reaffirmed that the Pakistani forces remain fully committed to eradicating terrorism, regardless of the external support such groups may receive.

The official statement also carried a clear message to the Afghan government. Pakistan expects Kabul to fulfill its responsibilities by ensuring that Afghan soil is not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan. The ISPR stressed that cross-border sanctuaries and safe havens have long enabled terrorists to slip across borders, making counterterrorism efforts more complex. By urging Afghanistan to take concrete action, Islamabad seeks stronger regional cooperation in order to secure peace along the Pak-Afghan frontier.

The incident underscores the evolving nature of terrorism in Pakistan, where groups like “Fitna al-Khawarij” attempt to exploit sectarian, ideological, and political fault lines. Such outfits, officials note, thrive on foreign financing and logistical assistance, which makes dismantling their networks not only a domestic but also a geopolitical challenge. The fact that three of the eliminated terrorists were Afghan citizens further illustrates the transnational dimension of the threat.

This successful operation also carries symbolic importance. By eliminating suicide bombers before they could execute their missions, the security forces prevented potential mass casualties. Suicide attacks have historically caused devastating losses in Pakistan, and neutralizing such threats in advance is a key priority in the country’s counterterrorism doctrine.

The ISPR concluded its briefing by reaffirming the armed forces’ unwavering resolve: “Pakistan’s security forces are determined to root out the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from our homeland. Every attempt by hostile elements to destabilize our country will be met with firm and decisive action.”

Analysts believe this operation sends multiple signals. Domestically, it reassures the public that intelligence and security agencies are alert and proactive. Regionally, it reiterates Pakistan’s stance that cross-border terrorism, if left unchecked, will remain a serious threat to peace. And internationally, it highlights Pakistan’s role as a front-line state in the global fight against terrorism, often targeted by foreign proxies yet steadfast in its resolve to protect its sovereignty.

With counterterrorism operations ongoing and sanitization efforts continuing in Kalachi, authorities expect to minimize the risk of immediate retaliation. However, security experts caution that the struggle against proxy warfare will require sustained vigilance, enhanced border management, and broader international acknowledgment of the external sponsorship fueling militant violence in Pakistan.
