PTI Matiari Plans Major Protest on August 5 for Imran Khan’s Release

Matiari Report by Zubair Ahmed Khuhro
As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) marks the completion of two years since the incarceration of its founding leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the party has announced a nationwide movement demanding his immediate release. On August 5, protest rallies, sit-ins, and processions will be held across the country in support of Khan. Responding to this call, PTI’s Matiari District chapter convened an emergency meeting in Hala under the chair of PTI Sindh Additional General Secretary Nazish Fatima Bhutto and District President Irshad Mughal.

The meeting saw active participation from all affiliated wings of PTI Matiari, including the Youth Wing, Student Wing, Farmers’ Wing, Labor Wing, and Women’s Wing. Prominent local office bearers such as Riaz Ali Bhutto, Zeeshan Shams Memon, Rizwan Bughio, Sikandar Sehto, Daniyal Umar, Muhammad Ali Abrejo, and Afshan Baloch attended and contributed to the discussions.

During the meeting, party members unanimously decided to fully participate in the nationwide protest and to organize a strong demonstration at the Saeedabad Toll Plaza on August 5. The objective is to show solidarity with Imran Khan and to amplify demands for his release from prison. The Matiari leadership emphasized that PTI workers, supporters, and the general public would take to the streets in a peaceful but powerful manner, ensuring their protest is registered loud and clear.

Speaking to local journalists and party officials, Additional General Secretary Nazish Fatima Bhutto and District President Irshad Mughal underscored the injustice done to Imran Khan. They claimed that Khan was the only Prime Minister in Pakistan’s history who was forcefully removed from office and later unjustly imprisoned. Despite severe personal hardships, they noted, Khan did not flee the country nor abandon his people.

Nazish Bhutto highlighted that even after spending two years behind bars, Imran Khan remains undeterred. His courage and commitment to the nation remain intact, and he continues to speak about the country’s future, economic uplift, and democratic integrity—even from inside a prison cell. She remarked that while others in his position may have opted for exile or political compromise, Khan stood firm, willing to sacrifice his personal freedom for the larger cause of justice and national revival.

Irshad Mughal added that August 5 would mark not just a political protest, but a moment of national reckoning. “It is a call to conscience for every Pakistani who believes in democracy, justice, and constitutional rights. The people of Matiari, from every walk of life—youth, farmers, students, women, and laborers—will come out in large numbers to demand their leader’s freedom.”

According to the meeting’s resolutions, PTI Matiari will also conduct awareness campaigns across towns and villages leading up to August 5. Local leaders will engage communities to educate them about the purpose of the protest and to encourage maximum participation. The campaign will also address the role of free speech, lawful protest, and civic responsibility.

Women’s Wing leader Afshan Baloch emphasized the role of women in this movement, stating that “Imran Khan’s vision has always included the empowerment of women. We will honor that vision by standing at the frontlines of this protest, alongside our brothers, for the sake of democracy.”

Student leaders like Zeeshan Shams Memon stressed the role of young people, calling on students and first-time voters to raise their voices against what they described as “state oppression.” He said that the youth of Pakistan see Imran Khan as a symbol of resistance and national pride.

Riaz Bhutto and Sikandar Sehto added that the PTI is not just protesting the imprisonment of its leader but the systematic undermining of democratic institutions. They said, “This movement is for every Pakistani who has been silenced, every voice that has been ignored, and every right that has been trampled.”

Concluding the meeting, the PTI Matiari leadership issued a joint statement calling on all PTI supporters and the general public in Matiari and beyond to join the protest at Saeedabad Toll Plaza on August 5. They vowed to continue peaceful resistance until their leader is released and democratic processes are restored.

The protest is expected to draw large crowds from Matiari and neighboring districts. Security arrangements, crowd management, and media coverage are also being planned to ensure the protest remains peaceful and impactful. The PTI has maintained that while their demand is political, their method will remain within the bounds of law and order.

August 5 is poised to become a significant day in the PTI’s ongoing campaign for justice, freedom, and democratic accountability.
