Karachi Girls’ Team Triumphs in SSWMB Trophy Basketball Triangular Series at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam

In an impressive display of athleticism and teamwork, Karachi’s girls’ basketball team clinched the title in the SSWMB Trophy Girls Basketball Triangular Series, held at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam. The Karachi side outplayed the Hyderabad team with a decisive 32–16 victory in the final match, earning the coveted championship trophy.

The closing ceremony, organized at the University Sports Complex, was graced by Commissioner Hyderabad Division Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi and Vice Chancellor Engr. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, who presented trophies, shields, and awards to the winning and runner-up teams.

The event was jointly organized by the Directorate of Sports, SAU, and the Sindh Basketball Association. Teams from Karachi, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas participated in the series, making it a competitive and spirited event promoting women’s sports at the provincial level.

During the final, Karachi’s players — including Afza Ali, Samran Lavyana, Fariha Afzal, Maheen, and Saba Khan — demonstrated remarkable coordination and skill, maintaining control of the game from start to finish.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi commended the efforts of Sindh Agriculture University in promoting both academic excellence and extracurricular activities. He lauded the university’s commitment to organizing quality sports competitions at the provincial and national levels, calling it a source of pride for Sindh.

He further announced plans to renovate and upgrade sports facilities across Hyderabad, including the Board Stadium and Basketball Court in Latifabad, so that national-level tournaments could be hosted in the city. “Our youth deserve modern sports infrastructure to polish their talents and bring laurels to the province,” he emphasized.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal highlighted that SAU continues to provide modern facilities for a wide range of sports including hockey, cricket, football, futsal, and indoor games. He added that the university encourages participation from both its own students and those from nearby educational institutions, fostering a spirit of unity and competition.

He also acknowledged the Sindh government’s full support for sports promotion, expressing optimism that more initiatives will soon emerge to further enhance the capabilities of young athletes across the province.

The ceremony was attended by Additional District & Sessions Judge Meesh Kumar, Haji Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Director Sports Anwar Hussain Khanzada, Masroor Memon, Aamir Sharif, Syed Shoaib Akhtar, Rehana Bhatti, and Kashan Khan, among other distinguished guests.
