Presidential candidate for the High Court Bar Association, Advocate Imdad Unar, has demanded the announcement of a new election date and the implementation of a biometric system for the 2026 elections.

Advocate Imdad Unar has written a formal letter to the Sindh Bar Council and the Chairman of the Election Commission, emphasizing the need to ensure transparency in the election process. In his letter, he stated that as a presidential candidate, he believes that maintaining transparency in elections is a fundamental responsibility of the Bar Association.

He expressed concerns that, under the current circumstances, elections are being conducted under the supervision of an interim body, which raises several questions about fairness and credibility.

The letter further stated that the elected body in 2025 had already entered into an agreement with a private company for conducting elections through a biometric system, for which a substantial amount was paid. The biometric system was first tested during the Karachi Bar Association elections, and the same procedure is planned to be implemented for the Hyderabad Bar Association.

According to Advocate Unar, conducting elections through a biometric system would eliminate issues such as double membership and other irregularities. He emphasized that biometric voting ensures transparency, merit, and legal validity, while also helping to prevent illegal practices.

He also pointed out that scheduling polling in Hyderabad on February 14 could create several problems, as District and Taluka Bar Association elections in the concerned districts are scheduled up to February 12, which would make it difficult for candidates to carry out effective campaign activities.

Advocate Imdad Unar demanded that High Court Bar Association elections be conducted under the biometric system and that a new election date be announced. He expressed hope that the Sindh Bar Council would take the matter seriously and adopt concrete measures to ensure transparent elections.

Meanwhile, Treasurer candidate Javed Burdi has also endorsed and supported Advocate Imdad Unar’s request.
