The Divisional Superintendent (DS) of Pakistan Railways Sukkur Division, Jamshed Alam, has outlined a comprehensive series of reforms aimed at modernizing the railway system and improving passenger convenience. In an exclusive conversation with Pak Soch News, he shared insights into ongoing developments, new projects, and his vision for transforming Sukkur Railway Division into a model of operational excellence.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Rohri Railway Station, DS Jamshed Alam stated that it serves as a critical junction point in Pakistan’s railway network, where dozens of passenger and freight trains operate round the clock. “Given the increasing traffic volume, we have deployed senior Grade-16 officers on night shifts to oversee train movement, passenger facilitation, and station security,” he said. This move, he explained, ensures that operations continue smoothly even during peak hours, maintaining efficiency and safety simultaneously.

In addition, to uphold hygiene standards and passenger comfort, a Grade-17 medical officer has been appointed at the station. This officer conducts regular inspections of stalls, canteens, and waiting areas to ensure food quality and sanitary conditions meet proper standards. “Our goal is to make railway stations a place where passengers feel comfortable, safe, and respected,” Jamshed Alam remarked.

Discussing future developments, he revealed that under the special directives of Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, several new projects and upgrade packages are being rolled out across the Sukkur Division. These include:

• A modern train time-management system for punctual scheduling and monitoring.
• Renovation and beautification of railway stations to provide a cleaner, more organized environment.
• Installation of advanced technical equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
• Launch of an online passenger complaint and feedback portal, allowing for quick resolution of issues.

“These projects,” the DS noted, “will significantly improve the overall performance, reliability, and public perception of Pakistan Railways.” He emphasized that the implementation of these reforms will not only facilitate passengers but also help the railway system regain its lost credibility and trust among citizens.

DS Jamshed Alam further stressed the importance of staff discipline and professional ethics, saying, “All railway employees have been directed to perform their duties with honesty, punctuality, and a sense of responsibility. They are also instructed to treat passengers with courtesy and respect, as good behavior is the foundation of good service.”

He urged the public to play their part in maintaining the cleanliness of railway stations. “Cleanliness is a shared responsibility,” he said. “Passengers are requested not to throw plastic wrappers or trash on the platforms. Use the dustbins placed at various points. Together, we can make Sukkur Railway Station one of the cleanest in Pakistan.”

Reflecting on his vision, Jamshed Alam described the railway system as a national asset that connects people, economies, and cultures. “The railway is not just a mode of transport; it is the backbone of national connectivity and economic growth,” he said. “For its development and sustainability, the cooperation of both staff and the public is essential.”

Under his leadership, Sukkur Railway Division has witnessed notable improvements in station management, cleanliness, and passenger satisfaction. Recent inspections revealed visible progress in station lighting, seating arrangements, and overall punctuality of trains operating from the division.
