Sukkur Civil Defence Gears Up for Possible Flood Emergency Along the Indus River

Sukkur –
In view of the looming threat of floods in the Indus River, Sukkur Civil Defence Warden Service has declared itself fully prepared to work shoulder-to-shoulder with all relevant institutions in order to safeguard the lives and property of citizens. This commitment was expressed during a meeting held at Lab-e-Mehran, chaired by Deputy Chief Warden Dr. Saeed Awan.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saeed Awan emphasized that history proves humanity has always been vulnerable to natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, storms, and droughts. He noted that one natural disaster often triggers several other crises, which makes preparedness and coordination essential. He informed participants that a control room has been established at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to monitor the situation closely. Furthermore, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sukkur is providing accurate and timely updates regarding the flood situation. Citizens, he urged, must refrain from paying attention to misleading rumors circulating on social media, and instead rely on official sources of information.

Dr. Awan also underlined the importance of awareness and preparedness at the community level, stressing that Civil Defence has always played a positive role in times of crisis by serving the public with a spirit of selflessness. He urged that basic civil defence training should be made mandatory for every Pakistani, as it equips individuals with vital life-saving skills in emergencies.

The meeting was attended by several key figures of the Civil Defence Warden Service, including Group Warden Muhammad Ahmed Sheikh, Post Warden Agha Akram Durrani, Sheikh Adnan, Rana Tahir, Muhammad Yousuf, Lala Imran, Muhammad Rehan, Fayyaz Ahmed, Shahab Hussain, and Mahmood Ahmed, along with other wardens and volunteers.

The gathering concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment that Civil Defence Sukkur will stand firmly alongside PDMA, the district administration, and other rescue services to ensure rapid response and effective relief operations should floodwaters rise.
