SUKKUR : The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has foiled a major inter-provincial drug-smuggling attempt during an intelligence-based operation on Shikarpur Road in Sukkur, recovering 49.400 kilograms of narcotics concealed in secret compartments of an ambulance and arresting a key suspect.

According to an ANF spokesperson, the force received intelligence that drug smugglers were attempting to transport a large consignment of narcotics from Balochistan to Sindh using an ambulance as a cover. Acting on the information, ANF personnel maintained surveillance and conducted an intelligence-based operation on Shikarpur Road, Sukkur.

During the operation, officials searched a suspicious ambulance and recovered 36 kilograms of hashish and 13.400 kilograms of ice (crystal methamphetamine) from specially constructed hidden compartments. The total quantity of narcotics recovered was 49.400 kilograms.

The ANF arrested Liaquat Ali, a resident of Shikarpur, who was allegedly an important member of an inter-provincial drug-smuggling network.

Initial investigations suggest that the recovered narcotics were being transported from Balochistan to Sindh. However, further investigation is underway to determine the final destination of the drugs and identify other members and facilitators of the network.

According to the ANF spokesperson, a case has been registered against the arrested suspect under the relevant provisions of the Anti-Narcotics Act. Investigators are questioning the suspect in an effort to trace the broader drug-smuggling network, its facilitators, and other possible suspects.

The ANF spokesperson expressed concern over the alleged use of an ambulance, a vital public service vehicle, for drug transportation, describing the practice as highly disturbing and condemnable. Such criminal activity not only facilitates drug trafficking but could also undermine public confidence in the legitimate and essential use of ambulances during emergencies.

The spokesperson said the successful operation was the result of the ANF’s intelligence network, continuous surveillance, and effective operational strategy.

The ANF reiterated its commitment to continuing indiscriminate action against drug trafficking and those involved in the illicit narcotics trade across the country.

The spokesperson further stated that, under its mission to make the country free from drugs, ANF operations would continue to be strengthened and all individuals involved in the narcotics business would be brought to justice.
