During ongoing matriculation examinations in Karachi, serious irregularities were uncovered when the Sindh Board Minister Ismail Rahu visited a school in Lyari and found a large number of students allegedly involved in cheating. The surprise inspection revealed widespread use of unfair means, raising major concerns about the integrity of the examination system and the effectiveness of monitoring arrangements.

According to details, the minister conducted an unexpected visit to an examination center in Lyari where he personally inspected students’ answer sheets. During this inspection, he found that a significant number of students were using mobile phones and other cheating material inside the examination hall. The situation indicated a lack of proper supervision and enforcement of examination rules at the center.

In some classrooms, overcrowding was also observed, where two students were reportedly seated on a single desk due to limited space. This arrangement further raised questions about the management and planning of the examination center, as proper seating and spacing are essential to ensure a fair examination environment.

The situation became even more alarming when the minister checked the answer copies of students in a special room. According to reports, the answers written by multiple candidates were identical word-for-word, strongly suggesting organized cheating rather than individual misconduct. This level of similarity in exam papers indicated that students were likely copying from a common source or using pre-arranged materials.

During the inspection, officials also recovered mobile phones and cheating notes from several students. The presence of such materials inside the examination hall highlighted serious lapses in security and invigilation. In some cases, students were reportedly found openly using digital devices to access answers, which is a direct violation of examination rules.

The minister expressed strong dissatisfaction over the situation and sought an immediate explanation from the center superintendent. However, the superintendent reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory response regarding the irregularities and lack of control at the center. This further increased concerns about administrative negligence and possible involvement or complicity of staff.

Ismail Rahu directed the examination board authorities to take strict action without delay. He instructed that the examination center should be immediately canceled and the superintendent should be removed from his position. He emphasized that strict measures are necessary to restore credibility to the examination system and to discourage cheating practices in the future.

The incident has once again brought attention to the long-standing issue of cheating in public examinations in some areas. Despite repeated efforts by education authorities, such practices continue to surface, especially in certain centers where supervision is weak or poorly managed.
