KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of unusually high temperatures and the possibility of heatwaves across the country in March 2026.

According to the department, rainfall during March is expected to be below normal, and the rise in temperatures may lead to prolonged heat conditions, with daytime temperatures remaining higher than average.

Meteorological officials noted that the increasing heat is likely to reduce mosquito populations in Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. However, excessive temperatures may also accelerate the ripening of Rabi crops, causing them to mature earlier than usual.

The department highlighted that limited rainfall will constrain soil moisture for Rabi crops, while dry and hot weather could aid in drying and storing harvested rice efficiently.

In addition, the Meteorological Department predicts that the pollen season is likely to begin in the first week of March in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. The increased pollen could lead to a rise in respiratory illnesses, particularly among children and the elderly.

The department also noted that dry weather across Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will reduce the intensity of fog in the region.

Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions during peak heat periods, ensure hydration, and monitor vulnerable groups such as children, elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, as temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal norms throughout the month.
