Sharjeel Memon Urges Citizens to Vacate Dangerous Buildings Immediately and Cooperate with Authorities

Karachi (Saturday, July 19, 2025) – Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has appealed to citizens to immediately vacate dangerous buildings and fully cooperate with the authorities in this regard.

He stated that the Sindh government has completed all preparations to ensure the protection of lives and property during the monsoon season. Leaves of municipal staff have been canceled to maintain readiness.

Sharjeel Memon said that deputy commissioners and chairmen of municipal bodies have been directed to make arrangements for the immediate drainage of rainwater. Measures have been taken to ensure the availability of dewatering pumps in all low-lying areas under any circumstances. All municipal staff are required to be present 24/7.

He informed that 59 dangerous buildings have been identified in Karachi’s old city area, of which 10 have been declared national heritage sites. A technical committee of the Sindh Building Control Authority, consisting of structural engineers, is continuously surveying the city to assess buildings that may pose a threat to public safety.

Sharjeel Memon further stated that, for the protection of human lives, 61 highly dangerous buildings have already been evacuated and sealed. In view of the expected rains, a rain emergency center has been established in SBCA, which is operating round the clock.

He emphasized that the Sindh government prioritizes public safety above all, and no negligence will be tolerated during the monsoon. Citizens are strongly urged to vacate dangerous structures and cooperate with the authorities to avoid major disasters.
