Islamabad High Court heard PTI’s petition regarding solitary confinement of PTI chairman Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi in Adiala Jail. 

IHC Judge Khadim Hussain Soomro headed the bench. During the hearing, both sides PTI legal team and the public prosecutors completed their arguments in the case. 

The curt directed both sides that if they wanted to quote judicial references, then they should submit their written replies. 

The Superintendent of Adiala Jail and Islamabad Advocate General Naveed Hayat Malik appeared before the court. Barrister Salman Safdar, counsel for the petitioners, appeared before the court. The Islamabad Advocate General told the court that the petitioners’ counsel had presented detailed arguments during the previous hearing. 

“A report has been submitted to the Court in compliance with the order dated June 30,” stated the Advocate General of Islamabad. “In accordance with court order, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail is also present before the Court,” added the Advocate General. Advocate General refuted claims regarding the solitary confinement of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi. He added that prison authorities are providing additional facilities to the founder and Bushra Bib. 

Advocate General noted that the PTI founder was free to move about within his cell throughout the day. He said that Imran Khan was confined to his cell only during the night hours.  

“We once visited a prison in Sindh where the entire inner section of the jail used to be opened up in the morning,” remarked Justice Khadim Soomro. “What is the situation regarding the safety and security of the founder?” asked Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro. “He is a party leader; it is essential to ensure his safety and security while in prison,” stated the Advocate General of Islamabad. “A convict is permanently assigned to assist the PTI founder during the day,” said the Superintendent of Adiala Jail.

Advocate General said Barrister Salman Safdar also visited the Founder’s cell in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order and Supreme Court stated that the facilities being provided are sufficient and expressed satisfaction.

He said an order was issued to provide books to Imran Khan which has been given to him.

“They are being provided with facilities even better than those of ‘B-Class’ “, said Advocate General, Islamabad.

Jail Superintendent told the court that two English newspapers—The Express Tribune and Dawn—were being provided; nine new books were also given to them a week ago.
