Lyari Incident: Police Report Holds 14 People, Including 6 SBCA Officials, Responsible
Karachi: Police have submitted the initial fact-finding report to the court regarding the building collapse in the Baghdadi area of Lyari.
According to the police report, the building, constructed in 1986 by the owner as a ground-plus-five structure in two sections, had long been in a dilapidated and uninhabitable condition.
The report reveals that officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) were aware of the dangerous state of the building since 2022. One section of the 20-flat structure collapsed due to the criminal negligence of SBCA officers.

Despite being aware of the risk, the SBCA officials took no serious action. Their carelessness and negligence directly contributed to the collapse of the building, the report states.
The police report holds 14 individuals, including 6 SBCA directors, responsible for the tragedy.
It’s worth noting that on July 4, 2025, a building in Lyari collapsed, resulting in 27 deaths and 4 injuries.
