China Conducts Largest Military Drills Around Taiwan, Involving Dozens of Aircraft, Naval Ships, and Missile Units
China began its largest-ever military exercises around Taiwan on Monday.
The purpose of these drills is to demonstrate China’s capability to prevent Taiwan from receiving external assistance in the event of a potential conflict.
According to China’s Eastern Theater Command, the exercises, named “Justice Mission 2025,” involve the deployment of ground troops, warships, fighter jets, and artillery units.
The drills include encircling Taiwan, live-fire exercises on land and sea targets, simulated attacks, and blockades of key ports.
China’s Maritime Safety Administration stated that the live-fire exercises will continue until Tuesday across seven areas, making these the largest drills to date in terms of overall scope and proximity to Taiwan.
According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense, on Monday, 89 Chinese military aircraft, 14 warships, and 14 coast guard vessels were active around the island, while an additional four warships were observed in the Western Pacific.
The Ministry of Defense added that Taiwan’s military remains on high alert and is prepared to conduct rapid response exercises for immediate mobilization if the drills turn into an actual attack.
