The Indus River is once again showing its ferocity as the water flow at Guddu Barrage has surged to 375,000 cusecs, triggering a low-level flood in surrounding areas. One of the worst-hit localities is Indal Sundrani village, where more than fifty houses have been completely submerged under floodwaters. The inundation has severed all land routes to the area, leaving hundreds of families stranded and vulnerable.

Villagers report that despite the rapidly worsening situation, no government aid or relief teams have yet reached them. Desperate for survival, families are relying on small wooden boats to move children, women, and the elderly to safer ground. “We are on our own,” lamented one local resident, highlighting the absence of both medical assistance and food supplies.

The threat goes beyond displacement. Livestock—an essential source of livelihood in these agrarian communities—remains trapped in rising waters, heightening the risk of large-scale economic loss. With agricultural fields submerged, standing crops have been destroyed, and farmers are staring at financial ruin.

Health risks are also mounting. Residents warn that as houses collapse into floodwaters, venomous snakes, insects, and other dangerous creatures are entering homes at night, creating a constant atmosphere of fear. “There are no doctors, no medical camps, nothing. If anyone falls sick, there is no place to go,” a villager explained.

According to locals, a second wave of floodwaters is expected in the coming days, which could further intensify the crisis. With the roads washed away and communications disrupted, the possibility of timely evacuation or relief remains slim.

The affected community has made urgent appeals to higher authorities for:

Immediate rescue operations to evacuate stranded families.

Establishment of medical camps to treat illnesses and snake bites.

Provision of food, drinking water, and temporary shelters.

Long-term rehabilitation plans to restore housing and livelihoods once the waters recede.

At present, Indal Sundrani stands as a grim reminder of the fragility of rural Sindh’s flood defenses. Unless swift action is taken, both the humanitarian and economic toll of this disaster is likely to multiply in the coming days.
