Muzaffarabad (Saturday, July 19, 2025) – Kashmiris across the globe are observing Yom-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan (Accession to Pakistan Day) today as a mark of their ongoing struggle against Indian occupation.

In Indian-occupied Kashmir, state-sponsored terrorism by Indian forces is at its peak. For the past 78 years, India has deprived the Kashmiri people of their fundamental human rights. July 19 holds significant historical importance in the freedom movement of Kashmir.

Each year on this day, Kashmiris and human rights advocates worldwide commemorate July 19 as Accession to Pakistan Day. It was on this date in 1947 that Khawaja Ghulam-ud-Din Wani and Abdul Rahim Wani presented the resolution for accession to Pakistan.

An emergency session of the All Jammu and Kashmir Conference was held at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim, presided over by Chaudhry Hamidullah Khan. During this session, the resolution for Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan was passed on religious, cultural, and geographical grounds in line with the Partition Plan.

The resolution was unanimously adopted by 58 Kashmiri leaders in the conference. Its passage led to the Poonch Rebellion and ultimately the liberation of Azad Kashmir. Since then, for 78 years, Kashmiris have been engaged in a continuous struggle against India’s illegal occupation.

This prolonged conflict has witnessed the genocide of Kashmiris, with over 500,000 lives lost in the pursuit of freedom. International organizations like the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and global media have repeatedly raised concerns about the grave human rights violations in Kashmir.

According to UN resolutions, Kashmiris have the right to decide their future through a plebiscite. Pakistan maintains its principled stance that the Kashmir issue should be resolved in accordance with these UN resolutions.
