CNIC Name Correction Procedure for Father or Mother’s Name Announced

Islamabad: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially outlined the procedure for citizens who wish to correct their father’s or mother’s name on their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). The step-by-step process has been issued to facilitate the public and make the correction system more transparent and accessible.

According to the NADRA spokesperson, any citizen requiring this correction must visit their nearest NADRA Registration Center (NRC). Upon arrival, biometric verification of the applicant will be conducted before the correction request is accepted. During the application, the incorrect and the correct name of the parent must be clearly mentioned.

After an officer reviews the request, the applicant may be asked to provide an updated photograph and signature to complete the record. In cases where documentary proof is required, supporting documents such as:

  • Parent’s CNIC (showing the correct name),
  • Form-B / Family Registration Certificate (FRC),
  • Or educational certificates / birth certificate (with correct parent’s name)

may need to be presented.

Once the verification is complete, NADRA will process the correction, and the applicant will be issued a new CNIC carrying the accurate parent’s name.

The spokesperson added that NADRA is continuously working to simplify such processes to ensure that citizens face minimal difficulties in updating or correcting their official records.
