Tehran: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has said that any agreement between Iran and the United States does not mean that Iran will forget or forgive what it describes as American and Israeli actions against the Iranian people.

Speaking at a press briefing in Tehran, Baghaei emphasized that while diplomatic efforts are moving forward, Iran’s historical grievances and concerns remain unchanged.

MOU Signing Mechanism Near Finalization

According to the Iranian spokesperson, the mechanism for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Iran and the United States is expected to be finalized either today or tomorrow.

He stated that once the mechanism is completed, an official announcement will be made.

Baghaei added that the signing ceremony for the MOU is expected to take place in Geneva on Friday, and Iranian officials will undertake visits to neighboring countries before the event.

End to Regional Conflicts

The spokesperson said that one of the key elements of the understanding is the need to end hostilities across regional fronts, including Lebanon.

He stressed that:

• The conflict in Lebanon should come to an end.
• Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected.
• Aggression against Lebanon should cease.

According to Baghaei, these principles form an important component of the proposed memorandum.

Strait of Hormuz Security Measures

Baghaei also announced that Iran, in coordination with Oman and other countries, will take measures to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains a secure maritime passage.

He said a maritime service fee would be charged for a specified period and that the arrangement would be linked to commitments and responsibilities undertaken by the United States under the agreement.

Frozen Assets and Economic Commitments

The Iranian spokesperson stated that the United States has committed to restoring access to Iran’s frozen assets and fulfilling obligations outlined in the agreement.

He emphasized that:

• The frozen assets belong to Iran.
• The United States is not providing new funds but is expected to release Iranian assets that have been restricted.
• Iran should be allowed to export its oil and petrochemical products without obstacles.

Baghaei warned that if the United States fails to fulfill its commitments, it could face reciprocal measures from Iran.

Iran Rejects Restrictions on Nuclear Rights

Referring to past disputes over Iran’s nuclear program, Baghaei said that previous efforts to remove enriched uranium from Iran had failed.

He suggested that those experiences demonstrated the limitations of pressure-based approaches and reinforced Iran’s determination to protect what it considers its legitimate rights.

“We Will Not Forget”

The spokesperson stressed that diplomatic engagement does not erase past events.

“The agreement does not mean that we will forgive or forget crimes,” he said.

Baghaei stated that Iran would not forget the losses it suffered, including the deaths of senior leaders and officials, and said the Iranian people had remained united during difficult periods.

He also criticized international institutions, claiming they had failed to condemn actions that Iran regards as aggression by the United States and Israel.

Call for Rebuilding Trust

According to Baghaei, rebuilding trust between Iran and the United States will require substantial effort.

He argued that the American government faces a long process if it hopes to regain the confidence of the Iranian people after years of tension and confrontation.
