TEHRAN: The head of Iran’s Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Ebrahim Azizi, has said that peace negotiations with the United States would be impossible if Washington continues its current approach toward Tehran.

Speaking in an interview with a US media outlet, Azizi said Iran does not trust the United States and believes that the credibility of American intentions remains in question.

“No Trust in US Intentions”

Azizi stated that Iran views the US position with deep skepticism and does not believe that American leadership is engaging in negotiations with genuine sincerity.

“We do not trust the United States. If this behavior continues, peace talks will not be possible,” he said.

He added that Iran’s approach toward negotiations is shaped by its assessment of US actions rather than rhetoric, suggesting that diplomatic engagement is conditional on demonstrated seriousness from Washington.

Negotiations Seen as Part of Conflict

According to Azizi, Iran does not view negotiations as separate from broader geopolitical tensions.

“We consider negotiations part of the conflict,” he said, implying that diplomatic processes are closely linked to strategic and security considerations.

However, he noted that Iran would not oppose talks if the US demonstrates seriousness and adherence to agreed principles.

“If we see seriousness from the United States and its president, we have no objection to negotiations,” he added.

Conditions for Dialogue

Azizi emphasized that Iran’s willingness to engage depends on whether the US follows established negotiation principles and maintains a consistent framework for dialogue.

He said that compliance with such principles would remove obstacles to diplomatic engagement, but inconsistency or lack of commitment would make progress impossible.

Frozen Assets and Key Obstacles

Addressing barriers to progress in negotiations, Azizi pointed to Iran’s frozen assets as a major unresolved issue.

He described the issue as a clear example of the lack of a practical and workable framework for dialogue between the two countries.

According to him, without addressing such fundamental disputes, it is difficult to establish meaningful progress toward any potential agreement.

Broader Diplomatic Tensions

Iran and the United States have long faced strained relations, particularly over nuclear policy, sanctions, and regional security issues.

While occasional diplomatic channels have remained open, both sides continue to express deep mistrust of each other’s intentions.
