KP Police Chief Zulfiqar Hameed Likely to Be Replaced

PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed is likely to be replaced, according to government sources.

Official sources said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has forwarded three names to the federal government for consideration for the position of the provincial police chief.

The development comes amid discussions over a possible change in the leadership of the KP Police. According to the sources, the provincial government has proposed three candidates to the federal authorities, who will now consider the names before making a final decision.

The appointment of an inspector general of police is a key administrative decision, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where law-and-order and security challenges remain a major concern. The provincial police force is responsible for maintaining public order, combating crime and supporting counterterrorism efforts across the province.

Government sources said the federal government is expected to appoint a new inspector general within the next few days. However, no official announcement regarding the replacement or the names under consideration has been made so far.

The proposed change is expected to be finalized after consultations between the provincial and federal governments. Once the federal authorities approve a candidate, a formal notification regarding the appointment of the new KP police chief is expected.

Zulfiqar Hameed has been serving as the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, and his possible replacement would mark a change in the senior leadership of the province’s police department.

The federal government has the authority to finalize the appointment following the provincial government’s recommendations. The process generally involves consultations over the suitability and experience of the candidates proposed for the important position.

Sources said further developments are expected in the coming days, with the federal government likely to announce its decision after reviewing the three names submitted by the KP government.

For now, the change remains a possibility, as neither the federal government nor the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally announced the appointment of a new inspector general.

The final decision is expected to clarify who will lead the provincial police force and oversee security and law-enforcement operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
