The provincial government has decided to implement the Punjab Prohibition of Child Labour at Brick Kilns Rules 2026 for the complete elimination of child labour.

In this regard, the Labour Department has sent the draft of the Child Labour at Brick Kilns Rules to the Punjab Cabinet.

The new rules will be implemented immediately after the approval of the Punjab Cabinet.

The aim of the new rules is to ensure prevention of child labour at brick kilns

A monitoring system will be made effective to prevent child labour at brick kilns.

According to the draft, it was proposed that brick kiln owners ensure implementation of restrictions on employing children.

Preparation and verification procedures for records of labourers and their children will be included in the rules.

A procedure will be formulated for verifying the age of children, compiling records, and identifying child labour.

Labour inspectors will be given the responsibility of inspecting brick kilns and taking action on the presence of children.

Labour inspectors will be assigned clear responsibilities for investigating child labour complaints.

The procedure for legal action against child labour violations will be further clarified. 

It is proposed to make the role of the administration and labour department more effective to eliminate child labour. 

Awareness measures will also be proposed to make children aware of the harms of child labour.
