Karachi (Reporter) – During a hearing in the Sindh High Court, the police were granted permission to investigate new cases filed against Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi. The court appointed an officer of DSP rank as the investigating officer. The petition stated that the cases, involving allegations such as an attack on the home minister’s residence, snatching weapons from government officials, and arson, were politically motivated.

Barrister Umar Soomro argued that the court had already barred the filing of new cases, yet fresh cases were lodged, which amounts to contempt of court. DIG Shaheed Benazirabad informed the court that two cases were registered based on a citizen’s complaint, but no action had yet been taken. The Advocate General of Sindh stated that the subordinate officers involved had been suspended and that the police would only conduct a fair investigation.

The court remarked that the police’s job is to maintain peace and investigate allegations based on evidence, and the petitioner should not be harassed.
