Muzaffargarh: In view of the looming flood threat from the River Chenab, authorities in Muzaffargarh have ordered the closure of more than one hundred schools across the district. The decision comes amid rising concerns that several low-lying areas could soon be inundated if water levels continue to increase.

Precautionary Closure of Schools

According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muzaffargarh, 105 government schools in different parts of the district have been closed until September 6 as a precautionary measure. Of these, 89 schools are located in areas expected to be directly affected by the flooding if the river breaches its banks.

The district administration said the step has been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff, as well as to prepare certain school facilities for emergency use. Schools often serve as temporary shelters and relief centers during flood emergencies in Pakistan.

Schools Converted into Flood Relief Camps

Out of the total closures, 16 schools have already been earmarked as flood relief camps. These will provide temporary accommodation for families displaced by potential flooding. Meanwhile, the remaining schools that are not in immediate danger zones are scheduled to reopen on September 1, while the rest will remain closed until the flood threat subsides.
