Government prepares to drop a petrol bomb on inflation-stricken public, significant price hike expected

June 30, 2025, 08:14 AM

Islamabad : The federal government is preparing to drop a petrol bomb on the inflation-stricken public, with a major price hike expected from July 1.

It is anticipated that petroleum product prices could increase by up to Rs. 15 per liter for the next 15 days. According to sources in the Petroleum Division, the price of diesel may rise by Rs. 15 per liter and petrol by up to Rs. 11 per liter.

OGRA (Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority) will send a summary to the Petroleum Ministry today, after which the new petroleum prices will be announced tonight. The final decision on the new prices will be made by the Finance Minister after consultation with the Prime Minister.

It is worth noting that the potential increase in petroleum prices is due to a rise in fuel prices in the global market and a depreciation in the value of the Pakistani rupee.
